The plant price, by gallon size
Unlike delivery and installation, plant pricing is fixed and published β no guessing needed. Per plant, before delivery or install:
Clusia: $10 to $300 depending on gallon size (3 to 45 gallon).
Podocarpus: $12 to $300 depending on gallon size (3 to 45 gallon).
Areca Palm: $15 to $300 depending on gallon size (3 to 45 gallon).
Bigger starter sizes cost more per plant but need fewer plants per foot of hedge, and give you a finished look immediately instead of waiting a year or more to fill in. The gallon size guide breaks down which size makes sense for your timeline and budget.
What actually moves your total quote
The plant price is only one part of the total. Three things typically account for the rest of the variation between one customer's quote and another's:
1. How many plants you need
Total plant count is driven by the length of your hedge line and the spacing for your chosen gallon size β tighter spacing on smaller plants means more plants per foot; larger plants sit wider apart. Our spacing guide has the exact numbers by size.
2. Delivery distance
Delivery is priced at $2 per mile from our Homestead nursery. A property closer to Homestead costs less to deliver to than one further up the state β which is part of why we lean on Clusia for South Florida jobs and Podocarpus further north, beyond plant suitability alone. Message us your address on WhatsApp and we'll calculate the exact delivery cost before you order anything.
3. Installation
Plant pricing above is for the plants themselves. If you want us to install rather than just deliver, that's quoted separately based on your site β access, existing landscaping, and whether an old hedge needs to come out first (see our hedge removal guide if that applies to you).
The $500 minimum
All orders have a $500 minimum on plants β this reflects the reality of running a wholesale nursery efficiently, not a markup. It's rarely a limiting factor in practice: even a modest 20-foot hedge in 7-gallon Clusia lands well above that minimum on plant cost alone.
Why we don't publish one flat "hedge cost" number
A "cost per foot" figure would be more convenient to search for, but it would also be misleading β the honest answer depends on species, gallon size, your address, and whether you want installation. Two customers with the same length of hedge can get meaningfully different quotes for entirely legitimate reasons. The fastest way to get an accurate number for your specific yard is to message us your city, hedge length, and preferred plant on WhatsApp β we'll reply with an itemized quote, not a vague range.
